The cheetah was a known hunter within mythology, and followed beside the goddess Artemis. In an ateological myth (which are myths explaining the creation of things) with Artemis we learn about how the cheetah got their spots.
‘Do not avoid the blood, let it hit your beautiful hide (fur) and stain it. I am giving you some of my blood, the blood of my father Zeus, so that when animals and people look at you, they will fear you and your great cunningness, strength, courage and speed. They will feel honored to be in such a great animal’s presence. It will now be a part of you and your ancestors.’
Cheetahs are powerful, inspirational and brave animals, personifying all that a god/goddess should be.
