The vines responded by growing with less vigour than usual, until early Summer, which provided excellent conditions for vegetative growth.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\"\u003eThe dry summer really started to become evident in January, with prudent irrigation becoming crucial to maintain vine health. The weather in February continued to be hot and dry.  Come harvest, the temperature dropped significantly, and the rain stayed away, creating perfect conditions for fruit ripening.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\"\u003eWINEMAKING\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\"\u003eFruit for the ‘Classic’ came from all five Riesling blocks our Estate with picking dates falling between the 20 March and 15 of April.  The flavours that we are looking for on the vine for this style are that of orange citrus and stone fruit.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\"\u003eEach parcel was handpicked and whole bunch pressed to allow for gentle extraction. ideal for ripening.  Sauvignon Blanc was picked in pristine condition, with lower yields contributing to excellent flavour concentration and aromatic intensity.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWINEMAKING\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003ePicking decisions were based on optimal flavour development, which occurred rapidly in 2024 due to low yields and a warm summer.  Each of our vineyard sites contributes distinct characteristics and was kept separate during fermentation to provide flexibility at blending.  Juices were predominantly fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool - No frost events were recorded so the vineyards got off to a great start. December provided ideal conditionings for flowering and therefore, a bumper crop was set across all varieties. January was cooler at which point harvest dates felt a long way off. February and March saw more settled conditions and as predicted the bulk of our fruit was picked in early April which is later than in recent years. Despite some unusually humid conditions and the odd rain event we were able to harvest fruit in great condition whilst meeting flavour and ripeness parameters.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eA single vineyard wine, the fruit is sourced exclusively from the Framingham Estate. The Riesling vines are some of the oldest in Marlborough, planted in the early eighties, have been managed under organic principles for over a decade. The soils are free-draining greywacke gravels, with some seams of sand, restricting the vigour of the vines due to the low levels of organic matter and nutrient. The vines are trained using a 2-cane or 2-cordon VSP system. Yields are restricted to ensure quality and concentration in the wines. \u003cspan style=\"mso-fareast-language: ZH-CN;\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWINEMAKING\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"mso-fareast-language: ZH-CN;\"\u003eThe Late Harvest is a new to the Framingham portfolio, sitting between the typical “Auslese” and “Noble” Riesling styles. This wine is made up of 4 different picks with varying levels of botrytis infection (20-50%) with an average must weight of 30 brix. Picked between the 15\u003csup\u003eth\u003c\/sup\u003e and 30\u003csup\u003eth\u003c\/sup\u003e of April the “right” sort of botrytis was difficult to come by due to the persistent humidity and lack of frosts. These conditions did not allow the fruit to fully dry out, therefore we had to be very selective finding suitable material. Individual parcels were fermented until reaching the desired balance.
